Birthday, info, and celebration post

Hello flist, from Day 3 of SNOW and SCHOOL CLOSURES. My base recorded the coldest temperature in England and the roads are like...meh.

There's only so many snowmen I can make (I think I've reached my limit), and we're now once again back to the distractions that are reading books, the Peppa Pig computer game, Lego, Play-Do and the DVD library.

So, time for a quick update and a few reasons to smile:

* HAPPY BIRTHDAY, [livejournal.com profile] brissygirl! I hope you have a wonderful day! (Or rather, had one, as I think it's almost tomorrow where you are:)

* I am pleased to announce that the 2010 HP UK MEET-UP is taking place 2-4 July in Edinburgh. If you'd like to attend, please join us at [livejournal.com profile] hp_uk_meetup.

* [livejournal.com profile] kilter is pleased to announce that the first of the spring shoe collections are now on offer in the Pacific Northwest. and will be supplying all of HSU with new footwear this season.

* Attention people of York: [livejournal.com profile] cassie_black12 and [livejournal.com profile] softly_sweetly are together for the weekend within your city walls. Now would be a good time for that French holiday you were all planning for later in the spring.

* OMGSQUEE! My somewhat fanciful and very AU story In the Beginning has been nominated at the [livejournal.com profile] forbiddenawards!!! Thank you all so much for the lovely response this piece has received! If you haven't read it and you like porny bed-time stories, please give it a try. I'm so chuffed and incredibly excited to be nominated! I have no idea how it will fare, but it's enough to have got to this amazing place! THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Congrats on the nom! Definitely deserved. Few stories have stuck in my head the way that one did--I just adored it!

And I can definitely commiserate with the snow. Is there no mercy? LOL

Thank you, sweetie! I just signed up for that fest on a whim, too!

Am sick of the snow now. Have tons to do - hubby is away from next week and I've had week off and can't get anywhere! gah!

Thank you darling for the birthday wishes! And Extra big thank you for the paid lj time you sent my way! *squishes you tight*

I had a quiet day. I went to the movies, saw my best friends, took my brother to the airport, had birthday cake with my friends. I got some really nice presents too. I will post proper squee-age in the morning probably.

Congrats on your nomination!

That was supposed to have come through anonymously! (I was going to tell you later:) You're welcome, sweetie! Happy Birthday.

Play-doh never grows old! Until all the colours get mixed up :(... why yes, I am going to be a Reception techer... what gave you that idea? :P

[identity profile] nursedarry.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, we're well past the "mixed up" stage. We're at the "everything's made out of mud" stage.

Reception, woohoo! Mine are year One.

[identity profile] okydoky.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Mud monsters!

Year One is probably better, seen as the vast majority of them are out of nappies... or is that just the schools I've volunteered in? :| haha.

That icon makes me think of Count/Voldie >.< *is scarred from life from that conversation*

[identity profile] girlofavalon.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG! Congrats on the nomination!

And as for the meet up, can I try to go? I can try to set my travel to England in the end of June so I can try and sneak up to Scotland... :P

[identity profile] nursedarry.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
We'd love to have you! Just let us know when you know so we can sort out numbers. "Sneaking" up does cost money though-rail travel is very £££ but you might find some cheap flights.

*likes your icon*

YAY for a nomination!

And I have no idea what you're talking about with snow stopping kids from going to school o_O Here it was minus 27 degrees Celsius yesterday and the snow is up to your knees but they don't close the schools (or actually I think all kids have vacation ATM but that's not the point :P) In fact the most that I've ever seen happen in one day that they stopped all buses for an hour or two so I was stuck in school until they cleaned the roads again and I could go home. I guess it's because the country is expecting such extreme weather and makes sure to prevent traffic problems. Annoying for students though!

And yes, I shall be a better friend now and comment on all entries!

[identity profile] nursedarry.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
They close the schools because the roads are too dangerous to drive down. This doesn't happen very often and no one here is prepared for it. Course, back in my home town, this happens every year and they're still rubbish at clearing the roads! Great to hear from you and thank you!

CONGRATULATIONS on the nom! How cool is that?!?!

I saw about 'your coldest bit of the UK' win in The Times this morning. Mental, no? We still have a crazy amount of snow here (for England, and a city) and it is freaking cold, so much that we have had the heating on all night AND I still had to wear trackie bottoms and a cashmere jumper to bed so I could actually sleep.

[identity profile] nursedarry.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! LOL, I know! It used to do this every year back in Kansas, and I don't remember it ever bothering me as much, but that was before the kids and the "important" job, so I can kind of see why I'd have a much more lax attitude there.

Will we be seeing you in Edinburgh? *eyeballs you* Ah, *checks in-tray* perhaps we will!
