Fic: A Few of My Favourite Things
Oct. 7th, 2009 08:38 pmOkay, this is Dramione. Get up off the floor - you read that right. I took this on for the
hp_uk_meetup for the lovely
robs55.
Personally, I can see them getting along because they're in so many classes together and they're both smart (and get past that little incident in 3rd year), but I can't see the romance angle. Of course, I can't see any of the canon romances either, so what do I know?
At any rate, I thought I would take my "I-just-don't-see-what-they'd-have-in-common" doubts and run with them. (I kinda stumbled along with them, but it's at least moving in the right direction.)
Title: A Few of My Favourite Things
Pairing: Draco/Hermione
Rating: PG
Word Count: 359
Warnings: Het (gah, my eyes, my eyes!)
Disclaimer: Not mine, but wish they were. I could use some eye-candy and a little help with my course-work.
It was nice being a Prefect and Head Boy. He had his own room, for a start. Of course, it was even better when his girlfriend did too, but having said that, he’d never been in it. There was no way he’d step foot up there if he didn’t absolutely have to.
Besides, the other two parts of the Golden Trio were firmly ensconced in the Tower with their respective partners and he’d be damned if he had to watch the Weasel sucking even more face with that Brown girl than he already did in public and see Potter and Finnegan make googly-eyes at each other all night.
No, his room was perfect: his dorm-mates knew to leave them alone and he also got the added bonus of having his own stuff around him — particularly his favourite pillow. But damned if he’d tell her that.
They lounged on the bed, Ancient Rune books and parchment spread out around them, but they’d moved on from the assignments to discuss topics of much greater importance:
“Favourite sport?” he asked.
“Figure skating,” she replied
“Ugh, too poncey. Favourite city?”
“Paris.”
“Noisy, dirty, full of French people.”
“Isn’t your family originally —?”
“Doesn’t matter. Favourite food?”
“Macaroni cheese.”
“Baby food. Favourite animal?”
“Cats, of course.”
“Disloyal fleabags. Favourite colour?”
“Uh...purple.”
“Too girly. Favourite writer?”
“Shakespeare.”
“Too flowery. Favourite historical person?”
“Albert Einstein.”
“Terrible hair. Favourite Muggle movie?”
She looked embarrassed and didn’t say anything for a long time. Finally, “Titanic.”
“Oh no, Hermione, anything but that!”
“Sorry.”
“Quick, favourite singer?”
“Robbie Williams.”
“Who? Never mind. Favourite season?”
“Summer.”
“Too hot. Favourite subject at school?”
“Arithmancy.”
“Too impractical. Uh...favourite pizza toppings?”
“Uh...mushrooms, olives, and sweetcorn.”
“Eeeewww.”
“It appears, Draco, we have very little in common; you don’t like anything I do. One wonders why we’re together at all...”
She’d used her studious voice, like she was trying to work out an equation. He jumped in before she could realise that there wasn’t much on the other side of the equals sign.
“Nonsense. For instance, I love what you’re doing with your foot right now.”
“Well,” she replied with a sly smile. “That’s a start...”

I'm not a Dramione (or much het for that matter) reader, but pir8fancier wrote one that burned my brain (in a good way). If you're interested: Room Serviced

Date: 2009-10-07 08:15 pm (UTC)Thanks for the rec, but I think I'll pass. *feels the same about almost all het* Personally, I'd rather see Hermione with Snape, and we all know who Draco belongs to! I can write (and maybe read) Dramione if it's cliched and silly, but I don't think

Date: 2009-10-07 08:20 pm (UTC)I usually write humour, so this wasn't too much of a stretch - just the het part. Although strangely (or not), all my earlier fic (in other fandoms) was het - very Mary Sue and so terrible you'd cringe whilst reading it, but het, nonetheless :)

Date: 2009-10-07 08:45 pm (UTC)Okay, the stuff we wrote when we were 16 was pretty terrible. *g*

Date: 2009-10-07 08:19 pm (UTC)I think this is the first (and only) Dramione piece I've read.
I don't get them or most of the canon couples either, except Ron/Hermione. Really... would you want those two mating with others?
Good job!

Date: 2009-10-07 09:18 pm (UTC)I liked Albert Einstein. Draco is even too much into hair to lose his fingers in Hermione's
nestlocks. Why does Draco know Titanic, but not Robbie Williams? *tilts head* Oh, and Titanic makes me always think about Bill/Draco and now I don't get that image out of my head, thanks. :D
*gives cookie* I liked it. I needed something funny today!
