Whew! There ain't much sexier than an Olympic hockey player.
I think it's the kit; my favourite parts of the human male are the shoulders and upper arms. I don't like too much muscle but I don't like too little, either. Those shirts make 'em all look toooo fiiiine. And there's still water polo to come.
I've seen more cycling, 3-day eventing and rowing than I ever wanted to and aside from ogling the amount of skin on display, I'm not that keen on the swimming. I like rhythmic gymnastics (which Doug calls "circus tricks"). But hey- I think pre-pubescent dancing about with balls and ribbons looks a lot more fun than pre-pubescent too-elaborate tumbling and risking what looks like terrible injury on aparatus. But then again, I'm probably the only person alive who likes ice-dancing better than figure skating.
And one has to question why beach-volleyball and synchronised swimming continue as events whilst baseball is being chucked after these games. Sure, the whole world doesn't excel at baseball, let alone play it, but most of Latin America and Asia fields a team. Can the same be said about synchro swimming? (Personally I think this comes down to the number of Y chromosomes in the Olympic decision-making body.) There's a lot less make-up and fake smiling in baseball, too.
But I am, at least, able to see more than just the home-team events as Team GB doesn't excel at too much. And like Laure, have to appreciate the Beeb taking out most of those damn back-stories.
Until the UK ear-marks a lot more £££ for training, any home-field advantage we might have in the next games is going to be wasted. Perhaps the Civil List could be cut. I mean, how much DID it cost me to get William to some wedding in Kenya?

Date: 2008-08-13 05:02 pm (UTC)I can't wait till Friday when I'm taking the day off so I can sit home and flip between five channels and watch all the sports USA doesn't win medals in because the prime time show is all about the USA winning medals. Since I enjoy swimming, gymnastics and, next week, Track & Field, I don't mind that, but I'd love to see some of the other events. Hell, I'd never seen a badminton match before last weekend!
Usually the home team does really well when their country puts on the Olympics, but, yeah, I'm kind of doubting 2012. There are a couple swimmers, always rowers, and a Brit woman won the cycling road race this year, but other than that...?

Date: 2008-08-14 09:18 am (UTC)Haven't seen handball ever.
Basically, aside from the boxing and track & field, most of these athletes are products of private schools.
