What's the last thing you ate? A bunch of grapes.

What's your favorite cheese? Parmesean, but I like all cheese.

What's your favorite fish? All of them-I love fish, though monkfish is my fish du jour.

What's your favorite fruit? Pineapple, canteloupe and cherries, but I have yet to meet a fruit or veggie I won't eat.

When, if ever, did you start liking olives? Birth, I think.

When, if ever, did you start liking beer? When I was about 17.

When, if ever, did you start liking shellfish? Again, from birth. I love any food that comes from the sea.

What was the best thing your mum/dad/guardian used to make? My mum's scrambled eggs, but for nostalgic reasons rather than for taste.

What's the native specialty of your home town? Haggis, shortbread, whiskey

What's your comfort food?: Cherry Garcia ice cream

What's your favorite type of chocolate?: Sorry, I don't understand the question. (Milk chocolate, if I HAD to choose.)

How do you like your steak? Rare, rare, rare. Mooooooooooooooo!

How do you like your burger? Medium rare.

How do you like your eggs? Soft boiled.

How do you like your potatoes? Baked.

How do you take your coffee? Milk, no sugar

How do you take your tea? Milk, no sugar or black with a slice of lemon

What's your favorite mug? None at present.

What's your biscuit or cookie of choice? Chocolate chip.

What's your ideal breakfast? Depends on the morning. Sometimes I like a bowl of Grape Nuts, other times it's the whole fry-up experience without the fried bread but with the black pudding. The best breakfasts I've had were in Greece- yoghurt, honey, fruit and musli eaten outside in the summer sun.

What's your ideal sandwich? Sophie Grigson's recipe for really good tuna (not the tinned stuff), butter, anchovies, capers, lemon juice, all whizzed up and served on a bagette with slices of tomato and fennel.

What's your ideal pizza (topping and base)? see below. When not in Rome, I like The Works on a medium crust.

What's your ideal pie (sweet or savory)? Cherry or apple.

What's your ideal salad? I like all salads- I don't have a favorite- and I love balsamic vinegrette dressing.

What food do you always like to have in the fridge? Milk

What food do you always like to have in the freezer? Ice.

What food do you always like to have in the cupboard? Pasta.

What spices can you not live without? Paprika.

What sauces can you not live without? Pesto & Tobasco.

Where do you buy most of your food? Tesco and the WholeFoods store.

How often do you go food shopping? Usually once a week.

What's the most you've spent on a single food item? Bought a lobster once, maybe that, although I don't remember what it cost.

What's the most expensive piece of kitchen equipment you own (excluding 'white goods')? My KitchenAid. (Yes, "white goods" are appliances.)

What piece of kitchen equipment could you not live without? My fridge.

How many times a week do you cook from raw ingredients? 5-6 times.

What's the last thing you cooked from raw ingredients? Dinner last night; Lamb chops, steamed spinach with tahini sauce.

What meats have you eaten besides cow, pig and poultry? Lamb, venison, rabbit, ostrich, pigeon, duck, goose, buffalo, turkey, turtle, alligator, and all sorts of odd seafood.

What's the last time you ate something that had fallen on the floor? I don't.

What's the last time you ate something you'd picked in the wild? Last spring- asparagus.

Place in order of preference (greatest to least): Sushi, Thai, Chinese, Italian, Mexican, French, Indian- but I love them all.

Place in order of preference: Vodka, gin, light rum, dark rum, tequilla. I don't care for whiskey unless it's bourbon and brandy doesn't agree with me.

Place in order of preference: Mint, garlic, lime, ginger, basil, aniseed, caramel

Bread and spread: Bagel, cream cheese, lox

What's your fast food restaurant of choice, and what do you usually order? Burger King - Whopper Jr with cheese, onion rings and a Coke (it's a once-a-month treat).

Pick a city and dining experience: Rome- eating pizza with spinach, garlic, fresh tomatos, pine nuts and shavings of parmesean cheese. Eaten al fresco on a spring evening. Dessert was a scoop of Italian ice cream from the enormous ice cream parlour. They had about a million flavours. And then we walked it all off taking a stroll through the city for about an hour and a half just looking at fountains.

Oh, and the lunch we had after my uncle's funeral in Cleveland that was catered by the local Jewish deli. It was delicious- all my favs and it was nice to be surrounded by family and talking about my uncle with them all.

What's your choice of tipple at the end of a long day? Very dry vodka martini, two olives.

What's the next thing you'll eat? Pasta I'm making tonight for dinner, I expect.
