For my 600th post, I'm putting up a very long, very unusual fic. This was my submission for [livejournal.com profile] happy_trekmas. I really enjoyed writing this, not least of all because it's so different from what I normally produce (shite), but I also collaborated much more with (read: actually listened to) my beta - who always knows better than me. It's a threesome I don't ship, and it actually has angst and plot and everything!

Title: A Hunger That Never Dies
Rating: R
Series: AOS AU, with references to TOS and DS9 characters and episodes
Pairing/Moresomes: Chris Pike/James Kirk/Leonard McCoy, Leonard McCoy/??? *cough*
Word Count: ~20K
Summary: On an away mission, Captain Pike is…injured. Is he ill, is he mad? Is he even Chris Pike anymore? Can Jim Kirk find a “cure” or will he and Dr McCoy be swept up in the captain’s madness in an attempt to save him. And can the Klingons, Section 31, and the Vulcan Science Academy help them, or just make things worse?
Warnings: Creature, bloodplay/drinking, a bit of gore, discussion of PTSD, angst, dub-con, mind melds
Notes: This story would NEVER have been possible without my beta [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith, who was more helpful than the VSA and S31 combined. Also, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mildred_bobbin for proofing a fic containing (almost) no one she recognised;) And, of course my brother [livejournal.com profile] nicevenn, for the leap out of current fandom projects. Xx

I must also mention my wonderful giftfic, a beautifully-crafted Garak/Bashir story which can be read here: The Intervention of Time and Distance, by [livejournal.com profile] templemarker.
nursedarry: (Khirk Yeah)
In case anyone's interested, I finally, finally (only a year late) posted the fill to a wonderfully cracky [livejournal.com profile] strek_id_kink prompt that I liked the look of.

It's here, if you've got 15 minutes with nothing better to do: Too Late to Go Back to Sleep, ~3K.

It's...

...wait for it...

Gen!

But you know me: there's booze, shit explodes, and although no one gets a piano dropped on his head, it's a close thing.

Title: Break In
Fandom/Pairings Star Trek (AOS)/Khirk
Rating: soft R
Word Count: ~8K
Warnings: Probably OOC.
Summary: Could be a prequel to What the Tribble Saw; getting-together fic. Nothing to see here, move along. Do not disturb. No, really, stop knocking on the damned door and go away.
Notes: This is a bit disjointed and Jim goes from WTF? to OMG! way too fast, but it’s done and I’ll pick at it later. As ever, I couldn’t do this without my I’m-never-gonna-get-past-the-Next-Gen beta, [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith. Okay, yeah, so I may have a slight thing for Khan’s hair, it gets mentioned a lot in this story. Written for [livejournal.com profile] ithiel_dragon, cause she’s awesome and writes her John H as my John H. The title of this fic is taken from the song of the same name by Halestorm. Many thanks to lokis-angel-writer for directing me to it. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful and so very fitting during the film and beyond, considering the message is and will be – if we follow AOS canon – forever relevant.

Posted to read when your family starts irritating the shit out of you this holiday season. (See what I did there?)

Title: What the Tribble Saw
Fandom/Pairings Star Trek (AOS) Khirk, blink-and-you-miss-it Spock/Uhura
Artwork: [livejournal.com profile] botanycameos
Rating: PG13
Word Count: ~2100
Warnings: Tooth-rotting fluff and Len being Len.
Summary: Woken up and so busted over a game of squash. Post ST:ID. McCoy-centric. Sort of a sequel to Break In.
Notes: This is not my best fic, or even my best head-canon. There’s some lovely sleepy!Khirk fic out there which is much sweeter than this – kurohachi on A03 writes some great stuff, and you’ll recognise her themes in here. This fic came about because I demanded the amazing ID fangirl and artist, [livejournal.com profile] botanycameos, make me some sleepy!Khirk art, and I bribed her with this fic. Written in an hour and quickly whizzed past my long-suffering beta, [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith.
Spoiler: The link to the art is at the end of the fic. I love the pesky inquisitive tribble.

Before I say anything about me, I must thank the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] star_sailor13 for the most amazing and beautiful [livejournal.com profile] hd_holidays gift in the shape of I Want, I Need. I love it, and I'm so chuffed she created something just for me! *hugs art*

Okay, on to the fic...

Title: This Foolish Lover's Game
Pairings: Harry/Draco, Ron/Hermione, Blaise/Charlie
Summary: Harry and Ron are sent to elite Auror training, and guess who’s also there. Somehow, Harry and Draco manage to learn a few things before falling into bed between the sniping and sparring in order to become the best of the best of the best. EWE.
Rating: NC17
Disclaimer: All Harry Potter characters herein are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. All Top Gun characters herein are the property of the Scott estate and Paramount Pictures. No copyright infringement is intended.
Warnings: Crack, fluff, naughtiness, the threat of karaoke
Word Count: ~8K
Author's Notes: Dragon-sized thanks to my beta, [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith. Written for the fantabulous [livejournal.com profile] enchanted_jae for [livejournal.com profile] hd_holidays. Strangely enough, I decided on the plot for this prompt just days before Tony Scott’s death (may he RIP). I’m not sure he’d be too pleased with this homage to his best-known work, but I hope you all will be. The title is taken from Take My Breath Away.

Title: Lesson in Love
Fandom/Pairings: True Blood, Godric/Eric
Rating: R
Word Count: 2500
Warnings: Not if you just read this, then stick you head in the sand :) Actually, there’s some blood and dead people. Hello, vampire fic.
Summary: First-time fic. Fluffy smut. Prequel to Feels Like I’ve Always Known You, kinda. Although it probably helps to read that one first.
Author’s Notes: Written as a gift for [livejournal.com profile] jelly_baby23, who’s shared so much with me in this fandom, I can’t begin to thank her enough. Thank you, too, to [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith who leapt head-first into this fandom and came up with some great suggestions. Thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] sati_lotus for the new box of crayons.
Disclaimer: Hooker, please – I don’t have anything to do with these guys.

Lesson in Love )

I'll preface this post by saying I just had to share the grateful-gleeful-embarrassed feeling I got tonight as I opened my latest PWP ficlet, recently returned from my beta. Her comments were particularly funny and fresh, as this poor girl doesn't know anything about the fandom (except perhaps the contents of the 5-minute video snippet I forced on her. She's lucky I sent her that bit - the beginning, as it were, rather than the end - but we're not going to talk about that.).

I love my betas. I have several, plus all those lovely random people I co-erce into reading and commenting on stuff before it gets posted (I'm looking at you, [livejournal.com profile] treacle_tartlet, [livejournal.com profile] nicevenn, [livejournal.com profile] noeon and [livejournal.com profile] sati_lotus). They know what I'm trying to say, rather than what I am saying, usually badly. Let's face it, unless there's an anvil falling on someone's head, I'm not a very convincing fic writer. I can and do like to make people laugh and I enjoy writing fanfic, so I'll keep on doing it. And thanks to my betas, I'll keep inflicting it on you.

Now as I find myself drawn into other fandoms where I want to explore greater romantic or darker themes, I need my betas more than ever. That's not to say I couldn't write those things in HP - I have done - but I preferred my cracky comfort zone, which I'm finding doesn't sit so well in the Iraqi desert or Bon Temps, Louisiana. Maybe it never sat well in HP, either, but I enjoyed reading it as much as writing it, so I reckon there's a place for any genre everywhere, just in differing amounts.

Smut is even more difficult for someone who writes for the Department of Health for a living, or at least, this someone. In my Day Job, not only do I usually write in the passive voice, I often use proper scientific lingo and big words, with simple themes and very little description. This does not ordinarily make for good smut. And never romance: my initial drafts typically sound like Planned Parenthood-meets-Mills & Boon. I pick up something by [livejournal.com profile] oldenuf2nb or [livejournal.com profile] septemberoses or [livejournal.com profile] cjmarlowe and turn green with envy at how effortlessly I find myself happily sandwiched in-between their characters mid-coitus, their narratives brimming with emotion without sounding clinical or clichéd.

I cannot stress how much I value my betas' instructions in this. Tonight, [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith's learned advice and hysterical comments had me feeling so good about the writing experience (as well making me giggle over how she can shoe-horn Lucius Malfoy into anything), I felt compelled to say THANK YOU to her and to [livejournal.com profile] cassie_black12, and especially [livejournal.com profile] groolover for their years of difficult service to me as betas, and more importantly, as friends.

Please excuse the grammatical errors in this post. I'm sure it also could have been sexier.

Title: Feels Like I’ve Always Known You
Fandom/Pairings: True Blood, Godric/Eric
Rating: NC17, just
Word Count: ~4K
Warnings: Not really, aside from the big stupid obvious one most G/E readers are familiar with.
Summary: So, in my head – at least for the purposes of this story – everyone leaves the church and goes to do…whatever, and the next scene is the following night (‘cause who the hell can organise a party that quickly?). Which leaves the remainder of the night Eric gets Godric back completely free. Mmmmm... Angsty smut.
Author's Notes: Written for my darling friend [livejournal.com profile] sati_lotus, who helped keep me smiling through a hard year. I'm sorry this has taken so long to write. I know this is your favourite kind of fic, but for a cracky fluff writer, it ain't easy - which will be painfully obvious as you read this. Special thanks also to my G/E friends and writers who have made me so very happy in this fandom. And cheers x1000 to the truly wonderful [livejournal.com profile] groolover for the beta! Title taken from On A Night Like This, by Kylie Minogue.
Disclaimer: Not mine. So very not mine :(

Title: Delay Is the Deadliest Form of Denial (hosted on AO3)
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] sati_lotus and [livejournal.com profile] nursedarry
Artists: [livejournal.com profile] naturegirlrocks, banner by [livejournal.com profile] joan_waterhouse
Fandom: True Blood
Word Count: ~16K
Rating: PG13
Characters/Pairings: Godric/Eric, Pam, Bill, Ginger, Sookie, Isabel
Warnings: Discussion of main character (true) death. And no smut. WTF?
Summary: You can only lie to yourself for so many centuries.
Disclaimer: These characters belong to Charlaine Harris, Alan Ball & HBO, and not us :(
Notes: This is set between Seasons 4 and 5, though sadly, Season 5 has made the story woefully AU (contains no spoilers for S5). Enormous bloody kisses to our artists [livejournal.com profile] naturegirlrocks and [livejournal.com profile] joan_waterhouse, and to our beta and proof-readers. Thanks also to the fabulous Allan Hyde & Alexander Skarsgard for inspiring us. Title taken from a quote by C. Northcote Parkinson.

What? I hear you say. Fic? It's badfic, but it's fic. And not HP. I KNOW! And there's more; I've written in a couple different fandoms recently. Obviously I must be coming down with something.

For those of you who know GK, I hope you enjoy this. It's no secret (especially to [livejournal.com profile] lijahlover and [livejournal.com profile] naturegirlrocks) I'm a fan of Askars. And Pawel is just too cute for words! Actually, I did have some words for him - I randomly tweeted "Who do I need to blow to get Pawel Szajda onto Twitter?" only to have him reply to me that he was already there! *facepalm x a billionty*

Anyway, here's some fic with them in it. Stay frosty.

Title: Back to Life
Fandom: Generation Kill

Rating: R

Disclaimer I don't own dick.
Notes: Future AU. Written as a gift for a lovely lady who read for Semper Hi-Fi, a GK Podfic fest. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] groolover for the beta and the leap into an unknown fandom, and to [livejournal.com profile] noeon for enabling me. I really wish I had the time to play in this fandom, but two is enough atm, if you don't count all the RL people I've been swooning over all summer. I had a great time writing this, and even have an idea for a sequel. When there are 30 hours in a day, I'll get it written.

Remix Rec!

Apologies for the (mostly) inexcusable delay in posting this:

I got the most wonderful [livejournal.com profile] hd_remix gift by basically threatening the author into writing it. Then when I got sick, I hoped she'd feel sorry for me and really pull out all the stops, and that's exactly what she did.

A remix of my I'll Show You Mine, I cannot squee loudly enough about I'll Show You More [NC17], by the bribe-tastic [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules. ♥ ♥ ♥

And for those of you who, like me, enjoyed [livejournal.com profile] curiouslyfic's HP/ST:XI fusionfic Give the Git a Wand, I remixed that into Give the Git a Kiss [PG13].

Title: Tripping the Light Fantastic
Rating: Just barely NC17
Characters: Harry/Draco, Ron/Hermione (implied)
Prompt(s): Harry loses his glasses. He spends Christmas fumbling around, bumping into things and looking at the pretty out of focus lights. Until Draco eventually finds and returns his glasses.
Warnings: Tooth-rotting fluff and a teensy-weensy bit of emo.
Summary: Way wrong answer, Harry. In fact, that was no answer at all.
Word Count: ~4K
A/N: OMG! I think I wrote established relationship. Thank you to the two bestest betas in the world, [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith and [livejournal.com profile] groolover. And thank you to my muse, [livejournal.com profile] wendypops, for such a brilliant prompt – I ♥ anything to do with Harry’s glasses. Written for [livejournal.com profile] mini_fest 2011.

Prompts: Two wonderful prompts submitted by [livejournal.com profile] tabitha666: Al and Scorpius decide to try something new in their sex life; roleplaying their fathers and Al and Scorpius' first time is embarrassingly and accidentally interrupted by their shocked fathers.

Entertaining two fangirls at the house today and we've written fic, painted pictures - well, they did, cause I'm crap at that sort of thing - played with gilitter, and eaten ice cream. ([livejournal.com profile] cassie_black12 is just so awesome I can't even find the words!!<-- [livejournal.com profile] jtsbbsps_dk wrote that.)

That's pretty much it, unless you count the foray into the overcrowded, completely mud-caked Tesco nearest me, which is also the Tesco nearest to the Reading Festival - that was hell. But the strains of Muse that wafted into the garden tonight were nice.

I've also snagged a most excellent prompt over at [livejournal.com profile] mini_fest, which I'm so keen to do!!!

Getting through [livejournal.com profile] hd_holidays, and having a great time writing it and discussing it with these poor girls whom I'm sure are sick of listening.

Just waiting for my [livejournal.com profile] the_ass_fest fic to get back from the Coroner, and will send it off for the second autopsy next week. Should have it submitted by next Saturday, Kitty!

And, without further ado - WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS! CHECK US OUT!
